6 Foods to try in Amsterdam(not Dutch)

Many people have been or want to go to Amsterdam. A popular tourist destination with the beauty of the city, culture and red light district. The food is not always on the top list but any tourist destination will have some kind of food culture. Amsterdam's traditional and typical Dutch foods are stroopwafels, Bitterballen, Oliebol, Hagelslag, etc. These are really great to try when you are in the city. But I am not going to talk to you about those foods. Instead, we are going to look at the really good foods to try in the city that are not typical dutch.

1. The butcher (when you are craving that burger)

-Albert Cuypstraat 129, 1072 CS Amsterdam

Amsterdam makes really good burgers, they are all over the city. The butcher is a great place to go to if you are not in the mood for something fancy but more something quick, easy and good. It definitely has a fast food vibe to it. If you want a burger in Amsterdam skip McDonalds or burger king and come to the butcher. They also have good fries and chicken if you want to have something with your burger.

2. Albert Cuypstraat for the endless variety of foods

-Albert Cuypstraat 1073 BD Amsterdam

If you are about to travel to Amsterdam or you already have then you have probably heard of this place. It is really popular with the tourist but what is so great about it is the endless possibilities of foods. We went to a Turkish stand and got some really good Turkish sweets. A warning is that this place is crowded and is a huge tourist hot spot.

3. The Bakkerswinkel(best scones in town)

-Warmoesstraat 69, 1012

A simple café with a home vibe to it. They are especially known for their delicious scones, supposedly the best scones in Amsterdam. If you are craving a scone or something like a scone come to the Bakkerswinkel. They also have breakfast, lunch, cakes and good coffee. This is a chain so you will find a couple in the city.

4. De Koffiesalon(best coffee in town)

-Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat 82, 1054 BX Amsterdan

This is a super local place but with some great coffee, endless possibilities, and a great atmosphere. It has a very old fashioned vibe to it which personally is my favorite. I have gone to other coffee places around in the city and nothing beats the Koffiesalon. Skip places like Starbucks and get a proper coffee surrounded by locals of the city.

5. Whilemina

-Eerste Helmersstraat 83-A, 1054 DD Amsterdam

Amsterdam has some really nice cafés, they have a unique touch to them from the food presented and atmosphere. Whilemina is one of those places with a very cozy vibe to it. Their cakes are completely homemade which is also a bonus. It is definitely a place to go to if you just want to relax and sit down after a long day in the city. I got a big carrot cake which was really good, simple but delicious.

6. Stach

-Overtoom 112, 1054 BV Amsterdam

Stach is a café/grocery store/restaurant. Yes, it is all of those 3 places. Stach is Dutch, there are a couple in Amsterdam and it is built for people to be able to get good quality food on the go. At the same time, you can also go and have a coffee and sit down. You can also have full meals there which they prepare really fast but you can also buy food without sitting down like a typical grocery store. If you go there I would recommend getting their avocado sandwich and chocolate. Their avocado sandwich is simple but really good. If you try it get it with brown bread because it is better. They have endless possibilities of chocolates to eat and they are super original and different from the ones you will usually have. We got milk chocolate, peanut butter, and salty chocolate.
